With at least one year experience in using and implementing network and client operating systems you are probably ready for your certification. There are different certifications that you can receive such as MCSE 2000, MSCE 2003 and the new and current certification, MSCE 2008. If you hold the MCSE 2000 certification you can take several transitional exams to obtain a MSCE 2003 or 2008 certificate.

There are several MCSE certification requirements. To earn your MCSE 2003 certification you must pass 7 exams. There are many training options for you to prepare for these exams. There are actual courses you can take if you don't have much experience. There is boot camp, which is a condensed form of the classses and there are also online study guides and tapes that you can purchase. You need to make sure that you are prepared. The 7 exams needed are four core exams on networking, one core exam on client operating systems, one core design exam and one elective exam.

As technology advances, so does the certification process. Some exams have been retired, and are no longer offered, or have been changed. If you currently hold a MCSE 2000 or 2003 certification, the certification will not expire, but it is suggested that you take the MCSE 2008 certification exam to keep your credentials updated.
